Answer. The Japanese word Kanban is derived from two constituent parts - Kan and Ban, the symbols for which........ There are different types of Kanban signals and different types of Kanban systems, but for our purposes we will just consider a simple circuit where Kanbans are used to pull parts from a previous stage in the supply chain........ Creating a good, robust kanban system is not that easy. To begin with, it is the exact opposite of the MRP and forecasting method that you are probably using now. MRP is a high-inventory model, whereas kanban is a low-inventory model. As kanban are used to link the entire value stream together, it should not be surprising that there are different types of kanban cards for different links......... There are other underlying aspects of visualization as well, because you're also starting to make implicit policies around the work explicit. That is, everybody might think they know how you work with a feature request; but by showing the workflow on the board in columns, the real process becomes apparent to everyone on the team.
